The Home Engineers were responsible for the full civil and structural engineering design associated with the development of a plot of Greenfield land for the provision of 1 No. new build dwelling.
The main challenge associated with the development was the fact that the levels had to be significantly reduced across the site to suit planning constraints implemented by the local authority. This meant there was a risk of ’undermining’ the existing Grade II listed boundary walls to the East and West of the development site. Due to the existing boundary walls being of historical specialist interest, every effort had to be warranted to ensure they were preserved and remained intact.
We adopted a solution which included the design of reinforced concrete retaining walls adjacent to the existing boundary walls. We designed a sequential solution which meant the new retaining walls could be constructed in phases which would ensure the stability of the existing boundary walls throughout the works.
