Project Overview
Project Scope RIBA 0: The client wanted to preserve and restore the land of the Former C of E First school, by as well as turning it into a comfortable family home, turning an outbuilding into an art studio for themselves. Therefore, The Home Designers were appointed by the client to provide a layout which would include a professional environment to continue their art.
RIBA 1 - 3: The client wanted the current outbuildings outside their home to be converted into an art studio so they could continue their hobby in a professional environment. Using the existing building footprint as a guide, we designed a traditional ‘t-shaped’ building with randomised stonework and stone edging quoins, while incorporating a modern fully glazed elevation. As the school has been unoccupied since 2018, we had to ensure no wildlife was going to be affected by the proposed works so multiple ecology surveys were undertaken. The survey found that bats inhabit the building and the local area. Therefore, works must follow the appropriate mitigation and compensation strategy to ensure no significant loss of biodiversity.
RIBA 4-5: After planning was approved, we were appointed to provide detailed architectural construction drawings and technical data.
RIBA 6-7: Works have not started on site.
